Supporting the Next Generation of Canadian Architects

Our scholarships and awards support and empower students, graduates, interns and emerging architects – the future leaders who will shape our built environment.

About the Foundation

The Foundation was established in 1964 to strengthen the profession and is governed by a Board of Trustees.

Mission

The RAIC Foundation is committed to advancing excellence and knowledge in Canadian architecture by supporting programs that ensure a vibrant place for architecture in Canadian society, the advancement of excellence in architecture, and a strong architectural profession throughout Canada.

Objectives

To promote public discussion of architectural ideas affecting society;

To support scholars in advanced research relating to community and the built environment;

To support students and interns in their architectural programs.

These objectives are pursued broadly in alignment with the priorities of the RAIC Strategic Plan:

Climate action

Reconciliation with Indigenous peoples

Equity, diversity and inclusion

Technical and social innovation

Governance

The RAIC Foundation is governed by a Board of Trustees, whose members include the Past immediate President of the RAIC; the Chancellor of the RAIC College of Fellows; the Past Chair of the Foundation; Fellows of the RAIC, architects and representatives from related design and construction industries.

Funding

The funds managed by the RAIC Foundation to finance its scholarships, grants, bursaries and awards have been established over many years by donations and endowments from RAIC members, regional chapters of the RAIC, individuals from outside the profession, other foundations, and bequests from deceased members of the Institute.

Thanks to ongoing donations, the Foundation has been able to add five new awards since 2021 and hopes to add several more in the 2026/2027 academic year. Please help us support our next generation of architects by donating today

Foundation Trustees

The Board of Trustees elects an executive committee that includes a Chair, Vice Chair, Secretary/Treasurer and the Past Chair. Trustees can be elected for a maximum of two 3-year terms; while the Executive Trustees are elected annually. The Board of Trustees is supported by an Executive Director and a bookkeeper.
