This scholarship promotes the advancement of the arts of Architecture and Design in Canada, with special emphasis on outstanding achievement in design.

Eligibility & Submission Rules

Background

Established in 1966, this scholarship honours the legacy of Ernest Wilby (1868-1957), an exceptionally talented designer who worked in Toronto, New York and London, among other places, over his long career. The scholarship that bears his name moves from one school to another each year.

Eligibility

The scholarship travels across Canada from the easternmost to the westernmost school, then the cycle starts again. In 2025, Carleton University awarded the scholarship; in 2026, Toronto Metropolitan University will do so.

Amount

A single scholarship of $1000 is offered each year.

Selection Criteria

The scholarship will be awarded to a student who demonstrates definite promise and talent in their work and who requires financial assistance to continue their course.

Submission Requirements

Students will be evaluated on their studio work. There may be a requirement for a personal statement explaining their financial need.

Adjudication

The recipient will be selected by the faculty or by a committee appointed by the faculty for this purpose.
