Overview

The objective of this grant is to provide financial support to a significant scholarly research project that relates to architecture and that results in publications, exhibitions, symposia, lectures and/or conferences.

Background

The name of this grant, which was originally called the RAIC Foundation Bursary, and its terms of reference have been modified in 2025. This grant is funded by the RAIC Foundation’s General Fund.

Eligibility

Individuals and organizations may apply for this grant. Preference will be given to applications that include members of the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada.

Amount

One grant of $5,000 will be awarded yearly.

The grant will be announced and presented to the recipient at the annual RAIC Conference on Architecture.

The recipient will be required to submit to the RAIC Foundation, within 12 months of the award, a written report on the results (or the progress) of the research project that the grant has allowed them to achieve.

Selection Criteria

The applications will be assessed based on the information provided in a completed submission form, described below.

Submission Requirements

Each submission must be submitted as stipulated in the Call for Submissions and shall contain the following:

  1. Name, address, telephone number and email address of applicant;
  2. Brief c.v. of applicant(s);
  3. Project title;
  4. Summary description (maximum three pages) of project objectives, methodology, work product, intended audience and projected impacts. Explain if funding from other sources has been or will be obtained;
  5. Plan for the dissemination of the results with recognition of the contribution of the RAIC Foundation;
  6. Time frame from commencement to project completion;
  7. Budget.

Additional Information

Applications are to be submitted through the RAIC online submission platform.

Entries can be submitted either in English or in French.

All entries will be retained by the RAIC Foundation for publication, exhibition and archival purposes.

Adjudication

The RAIC Foundation Trustees will select a jury of three members belonging to the College of Fellows of the RAIC, including anglophone(s) and francophone(s), and coming from different regions of the country.

A professional advisor to the jury will review the submissions to verify that they are complete and meet the submission requirements. The professional advisor will not form part of the jury.

Deadline

Submissions must be received before 10:00 p.m. ET, on March 8, 2026. Entrants are solely responsible for timely submissions. This date and time are firm without exceptions.
