Open to students at all accredited schools of architecture, this grant will be awarded to a completed design or research project that is scalable, transferable, and has potential for commercialization.

Background

The Vince Catalli Fund was established in 2020 with a $120,000 donation from Vince Catalli, aiming to promote and support innovative, practically scalable, and transferable approaches to sustainable design among the next generation of architects in Canada.

Eligibility

The Vince Catalli Grant for Sustainable Architectural Innovation will be awarded to a completed design or research project that is scalable, transferable, and has potential for commercialization.

It may be awarded to any student enrolled in the last two years of a professional degree program at an accredited Canadian architecture school or in Part III of the RAIC Syllabus program.

Each school can select up to two (2) students to apply for this grant.

Amount

One grant of $5,000 will be awarded each year.

The grant will be presented to the recipient at the RAIC annual conference. Travel expenses and one night’s hotel accommodation for the recipient will also be covered by the fund.

80% of the amount of the grant ($4,000) will be paid to the recipient upon announcement. The recipient will be required to submit to the RAIC Foundation, within 12 months of the award, a report on the further development, promotion or commercialization of their innovative concept or product that the grant has allowed them to pursue. The remaining 20% of the grant ($1,000) will be paid upon submission of this report.

Selection Criteria

The applications will be assessed based on the information provided in a completed submission form as noted below.

Submission Requirements

Each submission must contain the following:

  1. School, professor and student identification and contact information;
  2. Description of area of innovation research/design (COMPLETED PROJECTS ONLY);
  3. Overview of methods that have been used to carry out the work to completion;
  4. Anticipated benefits, plans for promotion and commercialization;
  5. Three-page description of actual project outcomes (text and graphics);
  6. Signatures of the student and the professor.

Additional Information

Entries can be submitted either in English or in French.

All entries will be retained by the RAIC Foundation for publication, exhibition and archival purposes.

Adjudication

The recipient is to be chosen by a faculty committee.

Deadline

Submissions must be received before 10:00 p.m. ET, on April 19, 2026. Entrants are solely responsible for timely submissions. This date and time are firm without exceptions.
